Marriage or co-habitation contracts
A marriage contract governs the financial arrangements of the future spouses by supplementing what is provided by law and stipulating various conditions, such as the distribution of assets in case of separation or divorce.
To be valid, a marriage contract must be notarial and agreed to by both spouses. Consult the professionals at Morris & Dupuis: they can explain to you the terms of such a document as well as the rules established by law and applicable to married couples. Thanks to the advice of your notary, you will be able to determine if a contract is necessary or superfluous with respect to your marriage.
Couples who live in a de facto union may, under the terms of a contract, resolve all the personal and common obligations of their daily life while at the same time specifying, in case they should cease living together (a break-up or otherwise), what becomes of their assets, joint residence, etc. This contract involves a number of legal aspects that must not be neglected in its drafting. Preparing it with a notary from our firm ensures excellent protection for you.
